Whether you’re running your own business or managing projects in a corporate environment, it’s likely you’ll want to find an audience to share your work with at some point. Sometimes you’ll need to do this without any specialist support, and that’s the perfect time for Gemini to step in and help.
I recently started a new social media channel focused on theme parks and rollercoasters. My first challenge was to ride every rollercoaster in the UK within 2 weeks and my plan was to simply get out there and release a video each day. However, some friends convinced me I could reach more people if I proactively approached the press.
Reluctantly, I agreed. But, whilst I had seen press releases before, I hadn’t written one myself. Naturally, I turned to Gemini. Here are the four repeatable steps:
Use existing materials to give Gemini background
I had already created some videos and a tracking website before setting off, so to save time, I first asked Gemini to summarise the details.Draft a press release using the background info
Then I asked Gemini to look back at the conversation so far and use it to draft a press release, giving a hint on the tone and being specific about what it was for.
Work with Gemini to tweak the output
I had some back and forth to make changes that fixed inaccuracies, leaned into what I liked most, and tweaked the format.Export to Google Docs to finalise
Lastly, I exported it as a document and made my own final tweaks before giving it to my friends who sent it to media outlets.
Obviously there’s no guarantee that the media pick this up, but it saved a tonne of time compared to doing this myself from scratch, and gave me some confidence that the format was a ‘proper’ press release.
For me, this ultimately resulted in international coverage reaching millions of people, from online articles, printed newspapers, radio and TV.
Personally, I think this type of use-case is one of the most powerful for generative AI. It checks a lot of boxes - quick, easy, saves time, is collaborative, and has real-world impact on my business or work.
This format was a little different to usual. I hope it was still helpful! Tapping the like button below is a great way to let me know.
See you next week!

Not only tapped the 'like' button, but subscribed! I've written more press releases in the past than I've eaten hot green peas with a Sunday roast - and you've reminded me of the power of the humble press release.
Great advice--press releases can be a huge boost if they're done correctly--sounding like a news piece rather than a marketing piece. Here's a question that might not be brilliant: Did you have a list of target publications or did Gemini suggest some?
